Owen McCullah, a senior at Bolivar High School, is a dedicated student-athlete whose passion for sports is matched only by his deep sense of faith and commitment to his community. Currently in the 12th grade, McCullah is a three-sport athlete, competing in football, wrestling, and track and field. On the football field, McCullah plays both left guard and defensive line, positions that demand strength, strategy, and heart.
What drives McCullah goes far beyond the scoreboard. “Honoring God motivates me the most,” he says. “I want to do the very best I can with what I was given, so that I can play for the glory of God.” The family atmosphere of football also fuels his competitive spirit. He thrives on the bonds built with his teammates, and by lifting each other up during wins and learning through tough losses.
McCullah credits much of his growth to the strong support system around him. His parents have always been by his side, providing constant encouragement and modeling selfless hard work. He also names Coach Austin Conrad as a major influence on his mindset and approach to the game.
Becoming a successful athlete didn’t come easy. Undersized at first, McCullah committed himself to gaining strength, learning plays, and studying game film. McCullah often spent hours perfecting the smallest details. His hard work paid off, including a standout track performance that landed him a 4th place at State in the shot put with a throw of 58’ 0.5”.
One of McCullah’s favorite memories came during his freshman year, when he and his older brother played together, and the team made a comeback victory from a 28-point deficit in just eight minutes. “I remember being so excited and having a ton of fun.”
After graduation, McCullah plans to attend a four-year college to study physical education and pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach. As he looks ahead, he remains grounded in his roots. “Representing Bolivar is an honor,” he says. “The name on my jersey is more than a few sticked on letters, it’s the name of my home.”
