Some athletes make their mark through stats or records, but for Webb City senior Karsyn Cahoon, her journey has been shaped just as much by the people who have poured into her. She says she’s been blessed with coaches who believed in her deeply, especially two who helped build the foundation she stands on today. “My favorite coach I’ve had is Jerod Peper, he coached me for FFS. He instilled so much confidence into me as a person and truly helped me be the player I am. Also, my pitching coach BJ, I owe everything to her. She has been coaching me since I was a kid and has been such an impact on my life.”
Just as important as her coaches have been the teammates who grew up right alongside her. “I’ve been lucky enough to grow up playing with the same group of girls my whole life. They are all someone that I admire to be both as a player and human and have always supported me.”
Her support system extends beyond the field as well. In the classroom, one teacher stands out as a major influence. “My ProStart teacher Mrs. Hunt. She has taught me some amazing skills both for cooking and daily life. And given me so much guidance and support toward my goals. Always pushing her students to be their best.”
This season looks different for Cahoon, who is recovering from a significant injury. “I sadly suffered a labrum tear causing me to get shoulder surgery. So, I am focusing on recovering and getting stronger to get back to where I was.” With rehab becoming her new training ground, she’s stayed focused on what she can control. “Since I am injured, my main goal is to recover fully and stay focused on my rehab. I also want to be the best teammate I can be, supporting them and being a positive attribute for my team.”
Through everything, softball has taught her lessons that stretch far beyond competition. “My sport has showed me how much focus it takes to reach your goals. And how lucky I am to have the people around me supporting me.”
Some memories stand out more than others—especially those tied to her travel team. “When my travel team all went to nationals together to Gulf Shores… it was the best time getting to play the sport I love with my best friends and then all go play in the ocean or play sand volleyball after.”
As for the future, Cahoon has a clear vision. “I will be continuing my softball career in college as a pitcher, majoring in Criminal Justice, and then pursuing law school.”
A 5’6” senior pitcher/utility player, Academic All-State honoree, and active member of NHS, ProStart, PALS, Hi-Step, FTA, and FCCLA—Karsyn Cahoon is proof that resilience, gratitude, and leadership go a long way.
