Some athletes shine because of talent, others because of work ethic—but for Seneca junior Alexa McDade, it’s the combination that makes her one of the cornerstones of SVC cheer. Now in her third year on the squad, she continues to raise the bar for herself and her teammates. “My goals this season are to improve my skills as a base and be consistent with harder stunts,” she said. A major target on her list was earning All-State again, and she proudly added, “A goal of mine was to receive All State for basing again, which I did. I also hope to get Academic All State again. I also want to be a better leader to the new girls coming in.”
Leadership is woven into the DNA of this team, and Alexa credits the culture. “The morale of SVC has always been great. This squad is filled with confidence and are the best support system you could have.” Their growth has been just as impressive. “The biggest improvement I’ve seen from this squad is their versatility. We have 23 strong girls on the squad, and every girl steps up and adapts wherever they are needed.”
Their goals this season were ambitious—yet achieved. “We want to stay competitive, confident, and consistent. A goal of ours was to take first at regionals and state again. We were able to complete both of these goals.” And their strength? Alexa doesn’t hesitate: “Our passion and confidence… Each girl gives 100 percent each practice and performance… Seneca has the best community behind them and their support creates the best environment.”
As for her role, she keeps it simple: “I try to be a teammate that brings leadership and reliability.” When learning new material, “the best way is to break it down and focus on cleanliness.” Conditioning is a year-round priority. “Each summer all athletes are encouraged to attend summer weights… Our squad also ends each practice with conditioning.”
When she hits the mat, her purpose is clear. “My mindset when stepping on the mat is to leave it all on the mat… We go out perform for God, for each other, and for our seniors. We put it in God’s hands.”
Her legacy? “A teammate that worked hard, did my part to help the team succeed, and was encouraging and helpful.”
Her favorite memories include the unmatched thrill of winning state: “Hearing Seneca High School be called for first place in the state for the last three years.”
A three-time state champion, two-time All-State base, Academic All-State honoree, and dedicated leader, Alexa McDade is leaving a mark that will be felt long after she graduates.
