West Plains’ Jaxon Hunter – Football Spotlight – Presented by Shelter Insurance

Jaxon Huter – West Plains

At West Plains, the impression Jaxon Hunter leaves goes well beyond a box score. The Zizzers’ standout fits the mold of the complete student-athlete, earning the trust of coaches and teammates with the way he carries himself in every setting. His presence has become part of the program’s foundation, both in the locker room and on the field.

Head coach Brock Kenaga focused less on stats and more on who Hunter is when he submitted his nomination. “Very nice young man with great work ethic and character. Very well respected on our team. Great student athlete that works both in the classroom and excels on the field.” Those words read like a checklist of everything a coach hopes for in a leader—character, respect, and effort that shows up in every part of his life.

Jaxon has established himself as one of the most dominant and well-rounded athletes in his class, combining elite production, strength, and consistency on both sides of the ball. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive end/defensive lineman owns a 3.8 GPA and is a standout in both football and track, posting marks of 17.88 in the shot put and 51.36 in the discus. In the weight room, Hunter’s power is evident with a 565-pound squat, 365-pound bench, and 320-pound clean. On the field, he recorded 77 total tackles, including 23 tackles for loss and six sacks, while also forcing two fumbles, recovering one, and adding a pick-six, showcasing his playmaking ability. His dominance has earned him 2025 Conference and Regional Defensive Player of the Year, Second Team All-State (Class 4) honors, and recognition as a four-year varsity starter. A three-time First Team All-Conference and All-Region defensive lineman, Hunter has also been named First Team All-Conference and All-Region on the offensive line, underscoring his versatility and value to his program.

That combination explains why Hunter is so highly regarded within the program. Being “very well respected” in a varsity locker room usually comes from how a player practices, responds to coaching, and treats his teammates, and Jaxon checks each of those boxes. Described as someone who works in the classroom and excels on the field, he gives West Plains a model for younger players to follow. In a sport where culture often separates good teams from great ones, Jaxon Hunter’s everyday standard makes him a true difference maker for the Zizzers.
