Brock Holmes – Rock Port
Rock Port’s eight-man attack found its identity behind a workhorse. Whenever the Blue Jays needed yards, momentum, or a spark, the ball found its way into the hands of junior back Brock Holmes, and more often than not he delivered in a big way. His blend of power, balance, and vision made him the focal point of an offense that leaned heavily on his ability to turn routine carries into explosive plays.
Head coach Dalton Jones detailed just how dominant Holmes was in his nomination. “Brock has rushed 195 times for 2037 yards and scored 44 touchdowns. He has also scored 45 2pt conversions. Brock has also accumulated 28 tackles on the year and 4 INTs on the year. Brock averages around 10 yards a carry and averages 203.7 yards per game. He runs hard behind a really good offensive line, but he makes plays when plays aren’t there. Against the number 7 team in the state, he rushed for 523 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the district semifinals he rushed for 250 yards and 8 touchdowns again. He is a great player and works really hard.” Into the playoffs, Brock made his mark. “I had 345 carries, 2943 yards and 61 rushing touchdowns with one pick-six.”
Those numbers are staggering in any context, but especially in the high-pressure moments Jones highlighted. Holmes’ 523-yard, eight-touchdown performance against a top 10 opponent reads like a career highlight, yet he matched the touchdown total again with 250 yards and eight scores in the district semifinals. Add in his 28 tackles and four interceptions on defense, and it is clear he impacted every phase of the game. For Rock Port, Brock Holmes was more than a star—he was the driving force behind a special season.
