Webb City High School’s Braden Strickland closed his senior year with the same steady presence he brought to every field, classroom and campus activity. A multi-sport athlete in football and baseball, Strickland balanced a full schedule of practices and games with leadership roles in student organizations and a commitment to academic excellence.
Strickland said baseball, in particular, has shaped how he handles adversity. “Baseball has taught me how to deal with failure,” he said. “Not everything will go your way, just never give up, have fun, and always keep working to get better.” That mindset carried him through the inevitable highs and lows of competition and helped define his reputation as a dependable teammate.
One of his proudest achievements came off the field, when he was named his high school’s citizen of the year, an honor that recognized his character and involvement around campus. Strickland has been active in student council, National Honor Society and several other clubs, lending his time and energy to a variety of school and community projects.
He credits much of his foundation to his family and the people who raised him. His favorite teacher is his mom, who served as his elementary music teacher and gave him what he calls an “amazing experience” in the classroom. He also points to his parents as his biggest supporters and the people most responsible for helping him become the person he is today.
Strickland says he will never forget the energy of Friday night football games in his hometown, when the community turns out to support the team. He also carries with him a piece of advice he first heard from one of his football coaches, quoting Pat Tillman: whatever you choose to do, be passionate about it, “or else why do it?” For Strickland, that passion has defined his high school years and laid the groundwork for whatever comes next.
