Q&A with Kynden Smith – Neosho Softball – Presented by Kerri Williams Shelter Insurance

VYPE: What grade are you in this year, how long have you been playing and what position do you play?

Kynden Smith: I’m a junior and a 3-year varsity starter, playing outfield and 3rd base. I started playing at 8 years old.

Vype: What is your specific role on the team, and how do you prepare? KS: My role is motivating underclassmen and keeping a positive attitude.

VYPE: What are your goals and hopes for this season? KS: To get another COC championship and to get a district championship!

VYPE: Who do you look up to as a role model, both on and off the field? KS: I look up to Autumn Kinnaird—she’s a great role model! She always is working to her full potential she is very funny and an all-around good human!

VYPE: Can you share a highlight or memorable moment from last season? KS: Beating Joplin in district after they beat us in season! Also, when it started pouring rain and we kept practicing it was so fun and a good time with the girls!

VYPE: What has it taken to be successful in your sports? KS: Practice is important but practicing on your own matters even more. Never be satisfied with how you’re doing. You can always push yourself to do better.

VYPE: What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of sports? KS: I am involved in a youth group at Northside Neosho! I do FBLA and I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends!

VYPE: Where do you see yourself in five years, both in sports and outside of it? KS: I hope to play college softball and earn a nursing degree near home.

VYPE: What advice would you give to younger players aspiring to play high school sports? KS: You never know who is watching and always push yourself to be the best player you can! Also, attitude and body language is huge on and off the field.

VYPE: Is there anyone you’d like to thank for supporting you throughout your journey? KS: I want to thank my parents for always supporting and pushing me, and my brothers for helping me become a better athlete.
