Jasper’s Carson Lehman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Matt Sappington Shelter Insurance

By Ken Hansard

Jasper High senior Cason Lehman is no stranger to adversity. He has turned adversity into a positive, and as such, is setting an example for his younger teammates, teaching them a lesson on how to take setbacks in stride. Lehman started his season as quarterback for the Eagles, but after breaking his thumb early on, he had to quickly shift gears and take on other roles to help his team.

He made a shift to linebacker on defense and to other skill positions on the offensive side of the ball. He made the adjustment well. He currently leads the team through the first four games with over 11 tackles per game. He has also added three interceptions, three fumble recoveries, and four rushing touchdowns.

Lehman has a lot of support from his teammates, and his resilience, in turn, helps lift the entire team, “We have nine seniors this year, including me, so I’m looking forward to having good leadership for our younger players on the team. I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hard work I put in during the off season will get me this year. I’m a senior captain. I see that as a great responsibility, and I have great expectations and am looking forward to embracing this role.”

That willingness to embrace change comes naturally, as Carson understands that his focus needs to remain on the little things that coaches preach, “One of the goals for our team that I set is to improve each week through focus and giving our best each day. My personal goal is never quit, never give less than I have, and just help my team be successful.”

When not on the gridiron for the Eagles, Carson plays basketball and baseball, enjoys hunting in his spare time, and is involved in FFA.
