Early promise as a freshman
Alexis Letts made her varsity debut as a freshman middle hitter for Sarcoxie in 2022. Head coach Morgan Brashers explained during the fall preview that the Bears were rebuilding around a mix of returners and newcomers. Letts was listed among the newcomers who would see immediate court time; Brashers said the group had plenty of persistence but needed more experience. She learned alongside upperclassmen such as right‑side hitter Abbey Thomas, libero Jocelyn Benito and middle hitter Payton Ogle, helping Sarcoxie battle through an inexperienced but determined season.
Breakout sophomore season
By 2024 Letts had blossomed into the program’s most decorated returning player. Ozarks Sports Zone noted in its 2024 fall preview that she was coming off a first‑team all‑conference campaign as a sophomore. The 6‑foot‑2 middle hitter delivered a team‑high 247 kills and 87 total blocks, making her the centerpiece of Sarcoxie’s attack. Head coach Erica Spittler praised Letts’ physical presence, saying, “Alexis Letts will be a huge threat on the net standing at almost 6‑foot‑2.” With fellow juniors Breann Shumake, Jordyn Misner and Ariel Wilson and seniors Laura Greenstreet and Kylee Walters around her, Letts was poised to lead the Bears to another winning season.
Impact in big matches
Letts’ net presence was on full display during the 2024 district tournament. In the Class 2 District 11 semifinals against Pierce City, she opened the match by blocking a dink attempt to give Sarcoxie an early lead. The Bears controlled the first set and eventually won the match 3‑1 to reach the final. In the championship against top‑seeded Diamond, Letts asserted herself early with hard‑hit kills and repeated blocks. The Joplin Globe described the 6‑foot‑1 middle hitter “imposing her will” over Diamond’s defenders and noted that opposing coach Haley Wheeler expected Letts to get her kills and that teams had to adjust accordingly. Although Diamond rallied to win the match in four sets, Letts’ dominance in the first set underscored her ability to influence matches at the highest level.
Among the region’s top attackers
By the end of the 2025 season, Letts ranked among southwest Missouri’s elite hitters. Ozarks Sports Zone’s final area statistics listed her with 408 kills, 14th most in the region. She also posted numerous blocks and was instrumental in Sarcoxie’s offense. On Oct. 25, 2025, the Bears’ three‑match win streak ended against Miller, but Letts still paced the team with 16 kills and a team‑high two blocks; setter Jordyn Misner dished 27 assists in the loss. The performance exemplified Letts’ role as both offensive focal point and defensive anchor.
Physical tools and future outlook
MaxPreps lists Letts as standing 6’2” with jersey No. 21 and identifies her as a Class of 2026 middle hitter for Sarcoxie’s varsity volleyball team. She also plays softball, underscoring her athletic versatility. After earning all‑conference honors and ranking among the area’s kill leaders, Letts enters her senior year as one of Missouri’s premier middle hitters. With her length, timing and competitive drive, she gives the Bears a formidable presence at the net. Coaches around the region already game‑plan to contain her; as Spittler said, her height and power make her a huge threat. If she continues to build on the foundation of 247 kills, 87 blocks and a 408‑kill junior year, she could cap her high‑school career with another deep postseason run and draw interest from college programs seeking a dominant middle blocker.
