Some seasons are defined not by the trophies earned, but by the people who step forward to lift everyone around them. For Seneca High School senior Riley Hamilton, cheer isn’t just a sport—it’s a responsibility she embraces with pride. As she put it, “My personal goals have been to make the most of this season and be helpful to the upperclassman.”
That mindset has helped shape a team culture full of positivity. “So far, everyone has been super positive and uplifting, even during our more stressful seasons like competition weeks or busy football weeks,” she said. That upbeat energy has played a major role in how the squad has grown. “Overall, our biggest improvement has been taking corrections. In the beginning we struggled to stay positive when being corrected.”
Seneca’s goals this year came with high expectations—and high reward. “Our main goal was winning state,” Riley explained. “We really came together in those last few weeks, and everyone was willing to put in extra time and effort to be better.” With that mission accomplished, their focus has shifted. “Our goal now is to be as encouraging as possible for our football team.”
Encouragement is something this team excels at. “Right now, I would say our biggest strength is staying on top of things. Everyone is willing to stay late and decorate, make signs, paint windows—anything we can to encourage the football team.”
As a senior, Riley’s role is all about inspiration. “As a senior, I would say my biggest role is being motivational and keeping everyone excited for each upcoming season.” She also loves the creative side of cheer, saying, “I usually look forward to seeing new choreography we’ve never seen before.”
Preparation matters, too. “I like to stay as conditioned and healthy as possible, both mentally and physically,” she said. And once she’s on the mat, her focus never changes: “My number one priority on the mat is making the routine fun and being there for my teammates.”
Riley hopes her presence leaves a simple legacy. “I hope I’ve made everyone on the team smile or laugh at least once.” Those friendships stretch far beyond the routines. “All our friendships usually go beyond cheer. I’ve made lots of new friends this season.”
Her favorite memory goes back to early high school. “My sophomore year competition season… The seniors made that year very enjoyable.”
A four-time all-state base and All-American, Riley Hamilton has shaped Seneca cheer in all the right ways. After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and major in entrepreneurship—continuing her journey of lifting others and leading with heart.
