Summit Christian Academy’s Brooke Winters – Kansas City Area Fan’s Choice Miss Basketball – Presented by Shelter Insurance

Brooke Winters doesn’t just play basketball, she competes with a purpose.

The Summit Christian Academy junior has built a reputation as a relentless, multi-sport athlete, balancing cheerleading, volleyball, and basketball. But when winter rolls around, the hardwood is where her passion truly comes alive. Driven by a deep love for the game and an unshakable competitive spirit, Winters has turned that passion into one of the most impactful seasons of her young career.

“My passion to play basketball motivates me. I love basketball, and I love to compete.”

That competitive fire showed throughout the season, as Winters helped lead Summit Christian to a District Championship appearance while earning All-Tournament honors in two of three tournaments, along with All-District and First Team All-Conference recognition. Her presence on the court is defined by energy, intensity, and a refusal to back down, qualities she’s worked hard to develop.

Part of that mindset comes from athletes she looks up to, including WNBA standout Sophie Cunningham.

“One of my biggest role models or influences is Sophie Cunningham. She is not only a great athlete, but an incredible teammate, great leader, and works hard with a competitive and fiery love for the game.”

Winters brings that same fire into her own style of play, modeling her game after another standout known for defensive grit and relentless effort.

“I believe I model my game after Kylie Feuerbach because she is an insane defender and is all over the court at one time. She brings the intensity, the energy, and the competitive drive to every game, and I work to do the same.”

While her on-court success is easy to see, what drives Winters runs deeper than stats or accolades. Competing for Summit Christian means representing something bigger than herself.

“To be able to represent my school when I play basketball is an honor because I play for an Audience of One, who is Jesus Christ. Going to a Christian school challenges me in my faith, but also allows me to play a game I love with great joy, which allows me to see all that the Lord has blessed me with.”

That perspective helps her push through adversity, whether facing tough opponents or difficult moments in a game. Her motivation is rooted both internally and in the support system around her.

“When things get tough, I am motivated by my desire to play well and by my parents. No matter if we’re playing a really hard team or we get behind in the game, I never stop pushing myself or stop giving it all that I have because I love it so much. For my parents, they constantly encourage me, help me recognize what I need to work on, and show up to every single game.”

Behind the scenes, Winters credits her development to strong guidance from her coach, who has helped shape her goals and push her forward.

“My coach has played a huge role in my development with his leadership and his support. Any goal that I have worked towards, he works to help me achieve it.”

Throughout her journey, her family has been a constant presence, cheering her on, traveling with her, and supporting her passion in every way possible.

“My family has supported me through every step of my basketball journey as they go to every game, so many practices and training sessions, they go to every tournament, they scream the loudest, and support me at camps where I get to do what I love.”

With one year still ahead in her high school career, Winters continues to build on a foundation of faith, family, and fierce determination. Whether she’s diving for a loose ball, locking down a defender, or celebrating with teammates, one thing is clear, she’s not just playing the game. She’s embracing every moment of it.
