Ella Goodrich doesn’t shy away from challenges, she feeds off them.
A junior at Knob Noster High School, Goodrich has built a reputation as a relentless multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball, and track. Whether she’s sprinting down the court or stepping up for a big shot, her competitive drive is rooted in a simple but powerful mindset: she refuses to stay comfortable.
“Getting beat is my biggest motivator.”
That edge has helped shape her into a versatile guard on the basketball court, someone who can score from long range while also creating opportunities for teammates. She studies players like Caitlin Clark and Hailey Van Lith, drawing inspiration from their ability to take over games while staying unselfish.
“I would say someone I model my game after would be Caitlin Clark and Hailey Van Lith, and this is because I have a good long-range shot, and I am a very versatile guard who can make good passes.”
But Goodrich’s growth hasn’t come from talent alone. Behind the scenes, it’s her work ethic and the people who push her that have made the difference. Her coach, in particular, has played a major role in her development, consistently reinforcing the value of effort and improvement.
“My coach is one of my biggest role models because he always reminds me to put in 100% in everything I do and that there is always something to get better at.”
“My coach has played a huge role when it comes to my development because anytime I want to get in the gym, he is always willing to go and work with me, no matter if it is 7 in the morning or 10 at night.”
That dedication showed up in one of the biggest moments of her season, the district championship game. For Goodrich, it wasn’t just about the competition, but the energy from the crowd and the pride of representing her school.
“One big highlight from the season was the district championship game because it was really encouraging having the whole community out to support us.”
Representing Knob Noster is something she takes seriously, especially knowing younger athletes are watching her every move.
“It means a lot to represent my school when I play because I know there are lots of younger girls who look up to me, so I try to set a good example for them.”
Even when adversity hits, Goodrich doesn’t look inward, she looks to her teammates. For her, success is built on unity and trust, especially when the game gets tough.
“When things get tough, my biggest motivator is my team because I know that even if something happens, we need to continue to stick together because that is how we’re going to win games.”
Off the court, her support system extends to her family, who have been there every step of the way, driving her to practices, showing up to games, and cheering her on through it all.
“My family is a huge supporter because anytime I would need to be driven anywhere, they would take me, and they have always come to cheer me on, so that is something I am really grateful for.”
With her competitive fire, strong support system, and commitment to constant improvement, Goodrich continues to set the standard, not just for herself, but for the next generation of Knob Noster athletes watching from the stands.
